Coral in Hood County, TX

Kingdom: Animalia, Phylum: Cnidaria, Class: Anthozoa, Order: Tabulata, Family: Syringoporidae 

Comanche Peak in Hood County, TX is a good example of the reefs that were built by marine invertebrates during the Cretaceous Period.  The peak is made up of oyster shell, coral, and rudist reefs where marine live thrived. Today we find the evidence in the fossil record, that is seen below.
